National Geographic - 125th
Anniversary Design Contest
Call for Artists - Deadline: July 10th, 2013
Worldwide Retail Store, Ltd. (hereinafter, the “National Geographic
Retail Store”) and Talents
United, are getting together to collaborate
in NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC’S 125th Anniversary challenge. Designers,
illustrators, photographers and creative people from all over the world
are invited to create an original graphic design, eligible to be
printed onto a special edition of National Geographic Retail Store
T-shirts for the celebration of National Geographic Society’s 125th
anniversary.
CHALLENGE
The project should be a design, illustration,
drawing, photo, painting or mixed media constituting an original design
to commemorate the 125 years of the history of National Geographic
Society. Participants are being called to create and submit: (i) a
design for a unisex T-shirt for adults; and/or (ii) a design for a
unisex T-shirt for children (aged 4-12).
The winning designs are eligible to be printed onto T-shirts which
would be part of the 2013 Autumn/Winter retail collection to be sold in
National Geographic stores and online.
PARTICIPATION
- Anyone over
18 may take part in the challenge.
- Interested
participants must; (i) set up a profile on Talents United
(www.talentsunited.com); and (ii) create a project portraying their
previous work, showcasing the best of their artistic or professional
career; and create a second project which includes their proposed
design for National Geographic’s 125th anniversary (only one design per
project),
- Each project
may include anything the participant thinks necessary to further convey
his/her idea, such as, but not limited to: photos, PDF files, videos,
audios, etc. The participant should make sure the design is available
in an Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop format.
- One to three
projects per user are permitted, regardless of the line submitted (for
adults or children).
- Participants
can be single individuals, but may also be collective participants,
including two or more people, in which case the profile on Talents
United should make clear that it represents a group
JUDGING
- The projects
submitted will be examined by the National Geographic Retail Store
team. Those projects conforming to the rules above will be published on
the Talents United website. For the avoidance of doubt, any projects
which National Geographic Retail Store does not find conforming to the
rules set-forth above, in its own and full discretion, will not be
published. The submitting of the projects to Talents United platform
will take place between midnight on 10th June and midnight on 11th July
2013.
- After
publication on the website, and after the final submission deadline, a
judging panel will examine the published projects and will elect a
winner according to the rules below.
- The judging
panel will be made up of members from the National Geographic Retail
Store team, who will choose the designs which best fit their philosophy
and style, taking into account, but this not being a defining
criterion, how it is judged and evaluated by the public (which will be
measured by the number of “Like” counts on the Talents United website).
During the month of October 2013, an event will be held at the National
Geographic store on 74, Gran Via street in Madrid, where winners will
be announced and prizes will be handed-out to the winners and
runner-ups (see point 9 below).
AWARDS
- Two awards
per category (adult line and children) will be announced:
notwithstanding the possible inclusion of the winning design in
National Geographic Retail Store’s 2013 Autumn/Winter retail collection
as established below:
- The two
first prizes (one for each category: adults and kids) will consist of
1000 € in cash, and 250 € worth of products (pertaining to the
categories of apparel, suitcases and accessories) from the National
Geographic Store in Madrid.
- Additionally,
the judging panel will announce up to two runner-ups for each category
(adults and children). Each of these runner-ups will receive 125 euros
worth of products (pertaining to the categories of apparel, suitcases
and accessories) for sale at the National Geographic Store in Madrid.
(*)
- Notwithstanding
all of the above, the judging panel reserves the right to not award any
of the above-mentioned prizes if it decides there is a lack of artistic
quality among the entries, or if not enough entries conforming to the
contest rules exist.
- National
Geographic Retail Store agrees to include the two first prize-winning
designs (i.e. the first prize for adults, and the first prize for
children) in National Geographic Retail Store’s 2013 Autumn/Winter
retail collection by capturing them onto T-shirts to be sold in
National Geographic Stores of our choice. For the avoidance of doubt,
National Geographic Retail Store does not undertake to include the
runner-up designs in its 2013 Autumn/Winter retail collection, but
reserves the right to do so at any time.
