The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards' presents the 2nd Edition of The Black & White Contest
In this occasion we invite professional and non professional
photographers as well as photography students worldwide, working in all
mediums, styles and schools of thought to submit single images
to this
second edition.
Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and
experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed
techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements
will be welcome. Digital or traditional photography or combinations of
both are accepted, as well as toned images.
Images can be submitted to any of the categories described below. Any
single image can be submitted to one or several categories. Images
submitted or awarded in previous contests organized by WPGA or other
institutions are accepted, and there is no restriction regarding the
date the image was taken.
There is no limit in the quantity of images to be submitted, but the
minimum is five single images (in one or several categories). We
requiere at least 5 photographs to allow jurors to have a better
insight of each
artist's work.
Prizes
The first prize will consists in a cash prize of $ 1,000. Winner,
Runners up and Honorable Mentions will be featured in the the second
issue of the paper-based WonderPick Magazine. (the first issue of the
Magazine will be released in the last week of February; the second
edition will be released in last week of May). Awarded images will also
be featured online in WPGA's website for one year.
Donation
In this opportunity WPGA will donate $1,000 out of the proceeds of the
entry fees to a charitable organization, nonprofit art institution or
foundation chosen by the winner of the contest.
Jurors
The second edition of the Black & White contest will be juried
by the awarded photographer Nermine Hammam (Egypt) based in El Cairo;
David Zimmerman (USA), winner of 2009 Sony World Photography Awards'
L'Iris D'Or and 1st Prize in WPGA's Annual 2009 Landscape Category;
Larry Louie (Canada), winner of the Lux Award 2010, Editor Choice Award
of Camara Obscura 2010, WPGA's Humanitarian Documentary Award
2009,Lucie Trophy Award - IPA; Marita Gootee (USA), full professor in
the Department of Art and Area Coordinator for the Photography Emphasis
at Mississippi State University; Arjun Mark (India), winner of the
first prize of the first edition of WPGA's Black & White
Contest; and Julio Hardy, WPGA's Managing Director, and Photographer of
the Year 2007, Black & White Spider Awards.
Deadlines
Early Bird Deadline - February 28th, 2011 at 11:59pm EST Images
purchased on or before the early bird deadline can be submitted at any
time until the final deadline
Final Deadline - March 31st at 11:59pm EST
Juror's Announcement: Finalists: Last week of April, 2011; Winners: Mid
April, 2011
Entry Fees
On or before the Early Bird Deadline: $45 for the first 5
images; $7 each additional image
After the Early Bird deadline: $60 for the first 5 images; $10 each
additional image
