& White - Call for Submissions - Deadline June 8, 2011Five
thousand people annually attend our Summer Art Show and this year's
show has a new feature - an 8,000 square foot space devoted to a
special juried section. There, the top 100 pieces in all media, large
and small from artists all around regional NY will be exhibited. This
is an open Call for Submissions to any artist willing to drop off and
pick up work at our gallery - a Civil War-era coffee warehouse in Red
Hook. With its trendy restaurants, bars, boutiques and billion dollar
view of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor, it is an exciting
place to visit and EXHIBIT.

Choice: $500.00 The artist whose work is voted best by
the attendees will receive a $500 cash prize and a complimentary
one-year BWAC membership.
Show Details:Theme:
We bathe in the beauty of color and spin thousands of words describing
the experience that the cone cells transmit to our brain. In reality,
they are not nearly as numerous as our rods, the cells that register
light and dark, the black and white of our experience. Our rods are
less articulated in language; fewer words are generated to describe
that experience. Black and white is primal, the underneath, the
foundation, of the opulence of color; black and white is where we
register motion and, when the cones do not have sufficient light, our
rods optimize our survival in the night woods.
Black and White intends to explore this underground of survival and few
words. All submissions are welcome in this exploration.
Eligibility: This
call for submission is open to all residents of the Metro New York Area
(from the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and
Connecticut); 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for
artists working in traditional and non-traditional 2D and 3D media,
except for film/video. All work must be original in concept, design and
execution. Note: Crafts, kit work or reproductions after original works
in other media (such as giclee), unless used as part of a mixed media
work, will not be considered. Work may be submitted in one or multiple
media.
Oversize Work, Assemblages and Installations are welcome at the
discretion of BWAC, but must meet all other specifications and be
delivered, installed and removed by the artist upon arrangement with
BWAC Staff.
Judging:
Final judging will be on site. Entries that differ significantly from
their digital images may be rejected. Decision of the judges is final.
Submissions
and Fees:BWAC requires an online entry. All entry fees
are non-refundable. $30.00 for up to three (3) images plus $5.00 for
each additional image.
All entries
must be received by midnight June 8, 2011.
