Technology: High and Low

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Oil, Art Gallery

The field of photography has never before seen so much diversity of technology driven imagery. From the popularity of the DSLR and high-tech I Phone to the low tech plastic Holga camera, photographers are getting their shots of how they perceive and experience the world. The DSLR has made a big impact on the digital revolution, but we still have photographers using alternative process, pin hole cameras and vintage 35mm cameras. How does technology influence contemporary photographers in their quest to interpret and understand their artist practices and give meaning to their artistic visual process of creating imagery. For this exhibition we would like to see a diversity of imagery from point and shoot, DSLR, cell phones, computer based imagery, Photoshop, Lightroom, the influence of the internet, the zone system, solarization, f stops and shutter speeds, reverse processing, Hipstamatic, scanners, platinum printing, black and white and beyond...Juror: Blake ShellFor more info see our website.

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Ceramics, Crafts, Digital Media, Glass, Mosaic, Illustration, Jewelry, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Watercolor, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Poetry, Video/Film Art Gallery

Every year, Baton Rouge Gallery and Venus Envy (a Missouri-based non-profit organization driven by women which positively affects everyone by empowering women through the arts) team up to present an exciting multimedia contemporary art exhibition showcasing the work of female artists in the southeastern United States. The 14th annual Venus Envy Baton Rouge (VE2012BR) exhibition will run April 17-26, 2012.The theme for VE2012BR is "Too Much Pink?" Artists are invited to interpret and explore the theme as they choose. From an early age, whether welcomed or not, girls and women are oftentimes faced with the color pink as a gender-identifying color. From advocacy (breast cancer awareness) to marketing, children's toys to clothing and everything in between, pink is often a part of the female experience. Some despise the color's prevalence while others seek it out. Others remain indifferent. With this exhibition, we invite artists to explore the role the color pink - and the causes, things and perceptions often associated with the color - plays in the development, life and experience of women. Whether works utilize the color pink or not will not affect their eligibility.Women artists living in Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Alabama & Mississippi are eligible.Deadline for submissions: 03.16.2012Fee: $30Juror: Michaelene WalshExhibition: 04.17 - 04.26.2012Reception: 04.21.2010Visit our website to download the full prospectus.

Alley Cat CD Artwork

Online Event - Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Ceramics, Crafts, Digital Media, Glass, Mosaic, Illustration, Jewelry, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Watercolor, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Poetry, Video/Film Art Gallery

This is the title track from my soon-to-be-released fourth CD. Anyone who has seen my earlier CDs knows that I love the art of CD packaging and for this next venture I had an idea for something interesting.I have so many friends who are fine, fine artists and I know there are zillions more I don't know - so I thought, what if anybody who felt like it listened to this Alley Cat story and created a piece of art in any medium they chose and then photographed it and sent me a digital image and once I had them all I could choose the ones I love the most for the CD packaging and lyric booklet.I would also pay for the privilege of using this art: $100 for the front cover, $50 for the back cover and $25 for any I use in the lyric booklet - plus a copy of the CD when it comes out.Plus, I'll keep this website up and display all the cool alley cats that people create! I hope to have the CD mixed and mastered by mid-summer and the graphic artist will need the images before that - so we have to get right on this. The new arbitrary deadline that I just made up is April 2nd (so nobody thinks it's a joke for April Fool's Day if I said the 1st).I hope this sounds fun and interesting.....I can't wait to see what happens!!!!!Annie J Dahlgren
