Places: 2nd Annual Juried Exhibition
Call
for Artists - Deadline for Entries: June 1, 2012
The theme for this
juried exhibition will focus on a wide range of artwork that explores a
creative interpretation of "spaces" and "places."
Contemporary and traditional subject matter encouraged. The
Village Theatre Art Gallery is located in the Town of
Danville which is situated in the East Bay of Northern California. This
venue reaches a wide audience during the exhibition period and also
serves as a lobby for the Village Theatre.
About the Juror:
DeWitt Cheng is a San
Francisco-based art critic who writes for Art Ltd., Artillery,
Sculpture, Huffington Post, Visual Art Source, East Bay Express and
DeWittCheng.com. He has degrees in art history and studio art, and does
freelance writing and curating.
Theme:
The theme for the Second
Annual Juried Exhibition is Spaces and Places. Artwork considered for
this exhibition will depict either a real, invented or a psychological
space or place. Creative interpretations
encouraged. Work produced in the last three years is
preferred.
Eligibility:
Accomplished, mid-career
and emerging artists living in the United States are encouraged to apply
Media:
Accepted media includes
painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics and
mixed media. Sorry no video or performance art will be
accepted at this time.
Size Limitation:
Please include specific
dimensions, weight and installation instructions per image. The Village
Theatre Art
Gallery reserves the right not to accept unusually large or cumbersome
work.
Entry Fees:
A non-refundable fee of
$30 is required. This fee covers up to 3 entries.
Checks and credit cards accepted.
Please make checks payable to the Town of Danville.
Jury and Notification:
Jurying will be done
from digital images only, thus image quality is critical.
There is a limit of three images per artist. Entries must be at the
Village Theatre Art Gallery on or before 5:00pm, June 1, 2012. Any
entries received after that date or that are incomplete will not be
considered. Entries will not be returned. Artist
will be notified of the results by e-mail no later than 5:00pm June
8th, 2012.
Agreement:
Submission of work
constitutes an agreement to the conditions set forth and acceptance
that the decisions
of the juror are final. Village Theatre Art Gallery may
photograph and reproduce accepted work for promotional
purposes. Artists may not withdraw accepted entries before
the close of the exhibition.
Sales:
Accepted artwork can be
available for sale at the Artist's discretion. All sales will
be subject to the Town of
Danville's Gallery Sales Policies (60% to the artist, 40% reserved by
the Town). Specific information and
agreement paperwork will be sent to accepted artists.
Dates to Remember
- June
1: Entry Forms, payment and images due by 5:00pm
- June
8: Artist notifications of juror's results via email or phone
if requested
- June
21: Deadline for delivery of artwork (8:30am-5:00pm)
- June
28: Opening Reception 5:00pm-8:00pm
- August
10: Exhibition Closes
- August 13 -
15: Pick-up of artwork: Shipped artwork at the artists request and
expense. The Art Gallery will charge a storage fee of $10 per day after
September 2 and is released from any liability due to property damage,
etc.
