Digitally-created
art – long on the periphery of fine art – is now coming of age. “One
only had to look at the crowds mobbing the Royal Academy’s recent
Hockney exhibition to see that people can love art created on a screen
as much as a canvas,” says Lumen CEO, Carla Rapoport, a director of
Treberfydd Foundation, the social enterprise launching the award.
The
Lumen Prize is backed by professionals with experience from The British
Museum, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York University, National
Portrait Gallery, The Financial Times and includes Lord Stevenson,
former Chancellor of the University of the Arts and Ivor Davies,
President of the Royal Cambrian Academy.
Proceeds from the
competition, after costs, will go to support the vital work of Peace
Direct, a global charity that supports local peace builders in conflict
zones worldwide.
Call for Entries is now open and closes on 31st July 2012.

Winners will be announced in October 2012.
