    Greetings from TheArtList.com!

Happy 4th of July! It is hard to imagine that we are already halfway through the summer. No lazy days of summer around here! The art world definitely has more of charge than last year and I am amazed at the number of submissions that are coming in. Generally, we tend to see a slowing down of submissions during the summer months particularly in July, however it seems to be different this year.

Last month, we tried something different and posted our monthly Artist of the Month call on Facebook. The results were amazing! In fact, we had so many great submissions that it was difficult to select only one. We are going to hold another call for the August AOM soon, so keep your eyes on your inbox.

We have some great submissions coming in daily. Be sure to login and check back often.

For those of you that are new to TheArtList, our monthly newsletter only showcases a small sample of featured listings. We have a ton more in the online database. For Premium Members, there is a great little feature on your member homepage that allows you to view all of the new submissions since the last login. When you see something of interest, just click on the "save to favorites" link at the bottom and it will automatically be saved into your "My Opportunities" Manager for later reference.

If you are an older Free Member, Expired Premium Member, or even just a member of the free mailing list, we highly recommend upgrading to a Premium Membership. The cost is only $27/year and having the ability to login and search the art call database without the interruption of full page ads is well worth the small membership fee. Upgrading is as simple as clicking on the Upgrade link in your member area.

CALL FOR ENTRY -- Black & White: People, Places or Things

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Oil, Art Gallery

What does "black and white" mean to contemporary photographers in the digital age? When Robert Frank made this observation, black-and-white film and silver prints were photography's most commonly used materials. Nearly a half century later they are approaching "alternative media" status. Or are they? Are the implications and meanings of black and white still central to photography's unique nature as a visual medium?Submissions to this juried exhibition are limited only by your imagination and your photographic eye. Portraits, fashion, editorial, landscapes, documentary, conceptual - all of these genres, and others not named, are open for consideration.Prints should take whatever form they need to in order to represent the continuum of tones, including gray tone, warm tone, cool tone, sepia, or other monochromes that comprise your photographs. Whether the initial recording was made on film or pixels is immaterial. However, in the final assessment, prints will be judged on their merits. Qualities of form, content, and relation to traditions of black-and-white printing and visualization will be sought in the pool of submissions. Please submit work that reflects your interests of the past five years. Results Announced: August 2, 2010On Exhibit: September 10 - October 25, 2010 at the Mpls Photo CenterOpening Reception: September 10, 2010Cost for Entry: $35 for the first 5 images submitted; $10 for each additional imageFirst place Award: $300; Second place Award: $200; Third place Award: $100. SIN! A National Call to Artists

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Ceramics, Crafts, Digital Media, Glass, Mosaic, Illustration, Jewelry, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Watercolor, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Poetry, Video/Film Art Gallery

¡SIN! is a national juried exhibition of original work inspired by a traditional concept of human transgressions. Lust, envy, gluttony, sloth, greed, wrath and pride have had an enormous impact on the moral compass of the modern world. With many different interpretations and understandings, each individual sin has been explored and exposed numerous times. The Bakehouse Art Complex, Miami FL, is announcing a Call to Artists for ¡SIN! to be on view during the world renowned art fair Art Basel Miami 2010. In its 2,600 square foot gallery, the artists, chosen by a reputable panel of curators, will display their works that are directly related to one of the deadly sins. Each of the seven sins is explored, from their origins and nature, their opposing virtue, and their corresponding punishment through a variety of media and styles from across the country. Applicants will have the opportunity to present their work to a highly distinguished panel of jurors consisting of Museum and respected Art Professionals from Miami. Each juror has chosen a specific sin, which they will individually curate.
