America loves neon. And Austin's full of it.Austin is a town that worships neon. It lights up our life all over the city, as it does all around the country. We'll pay homage to the art of neon with our gallery's Grand Opening and exhibit reception on September 16, The Neon Show.HOW TO SUBMIT: You may submit up to four (4) works in any one media for one entry fee of $35 plus sales tax (required by Texas state law). If you wish to submit works created in more than one media, please submit a separate entry for each form of media. Entries will be judged on the basis of originality; on the basis of your creative style; and in consideration of your professional execution. If you work in neon, your assistance in delivering, hanging and lighting your work is required for acceptance to exhibit. Hey, Hot Shot!, the premier international photography competition, is now open for entries! The deadline for submissions is August 22, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. (EDT). Our esteemed panel will select five photographers as the 2010 Hot Shots. Each photographer will be awarded; a $500 honorarium, participation in the 2010 Hot Shot Exhibition at Jen Bekman Gallery, and the opportunity to release an edition on 20x200. Jen Bekman will select one of the five 2010 Hot Shots for the Grand Prize and announce the recipient on March 15, 2011. In addition to the honors as a Hot Shot, the grand prize recipient will be awarded; a $5,000 honorarium to support a personal project, a solo exhibition at Jen Bekman Gallery, and representation from Jen Bekman Gallery for two years, commencing with his/her selection. All entrants are reviewed for participation in 20x200, have the chance to be featured on the Hey, Hot Shot! blog and receive ample opportunity for online exposure on Facebook, Flickr and Twitter. All artwork must not exceed 5 inches in any direction, inclusive of frame. Our juror is Kathleen Ewing, owner of Kathleen Ewing Gallery, which specializes in photography. She represents over 40 contemporary photographers and maintains an inventory of 19th and 20th century vintage photographs. Each artist will have their own page that will feature an image, caption information, and a link to the artist's website. We will produce a Press Release and obtain Reviews. Currently our private network (offline database) includes over 13,000 contacts spanning over 80 countries. Furthermore, we will send via email an announcement to a group of over 54,000 subscribers. The winner of this contest will be awarded The Icon Prize and will receive $1500 in award money, with his/her artwork to be featured on the cover of the new edition of the novel. Embracing Our Differences invites artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students to participate in its 8th annual visual art exhibit celebrating diversity. National and international submissions are encouraged. 45 artists will be selected for the exhibit. The Embracing Our Differences exhibit will be displayed throughout the months of April and May 2011 at Island Park along Sarasota's beautiful bayfront. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 850,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. In the judges' discretion, an additional six "honorable mention" selections may be made.Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme "Embracing Our Differences". The art-work will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size - 16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high. Artists are encouraged to use bold saturated colors and strong lines. Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals. A total of $3,000.00 in awards will be presented.Deadline for submission is January 10, 2011. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries.The mission of Embracing Our Differences is to use art as a catalyst for creating awareness and promoting the value of diversity, the benefits of inclusion and the significance of the active rejection of hatred and prejudice.
