DEADLINE JANUARY 11, 2015 PH21 Gallery: Call for Entires - Colour burst Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery A juried international photography exhibition.January 29 – February 18, 2015. Exhibit in Europe! There are two kinds of photographs with respect to the significance of their colours. On the one hand, ever since colour film technology became widely available, colour has become the default in most photographic practices. In other words, some photographs are in colour not because their colours bear some special significance (compared, for instance, to their possible black and white counterparts), but simply because the available film or digital technology has long turned colour to be the common method of capturing photographic images. We may think of these photographs as colour by default. On the other hand, colours are often central to the meaning of photographs for their emphatic, symbolic, psychological, social, compositional, etc. significance. These photographs would not work in black and white at all; that they are in colour is not merely a technological given, rather, it is an integral, formative and significant aspect of their photographic meaning. We may think of these photographs as colour by significance. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed "Colour burst". We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in the significance of colours in photography and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed as the significance of colours is independent of generic or stylistic constraints. Submission deadline: January 11, 2015.

DEADLINE JANUARY 27, 2015 PH21 Gallery: Call for Entires - Black and white: the living tradition Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery A juried international photography exhibition.February 19 – March 11, 2015. Exhibit in Europe! At the dawn of photography, black and white was the only available way of capturing photographic images. The technological constraint had a profound impact on the early development of the medium as photographers had to adapt to the specific means of black and white photographic depiction. Today, however, black and white is a creative choice, and understanding that choice is part of the appreciation process. As the emergence and development of colour photography have not made black and white obsolete, we may ask ourselves why recent generations of photographers keep turning to the shades of grey, why they find renewing and reinterpreting the rich tradition of black and white photography appealing for their twenty first century creative pursuits. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Black and white: the living tradition. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who work in black and white and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed, as black and white photography is independent of generic or stylistic constraints; we are interested in all black and white photographic work. Submission deadline: January 27, 2015.
